Hello from Hyannis, Massachusetts, a place you should definitely visit sometime, especially if you a) like crab cakes, b) enjoy looking at pretty houses with hydrangea-filled gardens, and/or c) want to take a few classes with the Cape Cod Writers Center. This is a great organization, based in nearby Osterville, that offers all kinds of support and resources for writers at every stage in their career. I spent the weekend teaching two classes on writing for young readers.
I also took a class on writing for film and TV from the lovely (and very funny) Jan Worthington. I met a cool poet named Charles Coe, who does poetry readings in cemeteries. (Love this idea!) I attended lectures by novelist Marge Piercy and Must Love Dogs author Claire Cook, who confessed the dog part in that book was almost an afterthought. Best of all, I met dozens of writers who are all working on books I cannot wait to read. Writing can be such a solitary undertaking. It's nice to get together once in a while with kindred spirits and cheer one another on. Till next time!
