Some people like raindrops on roses. I prefer rivers on fire, which is what WaterFire is all about. I've posted about this before, but I can't resist repeating how cuckoo I am about this annual event in Providence, Rhode Island. Here's what the scene looks like before the fires are lit. It's pretty. It's quiet. It's tame. Just another Saturday night, right?
Then they light the piles of aromatic cedar while drum-heavy music provides the soundtrack.
An hour later, it looks like this.
Pictures don't do WaterFire justice, though, because the sounds and smells add oodles of atmosphere. I'm already trying to figure out how I can be here next here to catch this cool event. Also wondering how I might be able to build a bonfire in my own pond. Must ponder.
