You'll Adore-a Eudora

11/28/2015

Eudora Welty is so flat-out charming in this interview. Funny how so many of my favorite writers are Southern single gals. Miss Welty explains perfectly why a lot of us have no interest in reading Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman. "I don't think it's fair to a person," she says of publishing early drafts of dead writers. Amen.
(Note: There are two parts to this interview, both are terrific and findable on ShoutFactoryTV.)

1) The interviews were wonderful.
2) I need to think about unpublished works--there is a play I wrote in 1905 that was performed at the Empire theater but not published The typescripts are in a file at Vassar. Some of my readers might enjoy reading it. I do agree about totally about rough drafts and *Go Set a Watchman*, however.
3) I think latent talent does need encouragement and mentoring.
4) There is nothing funny or mysterious about your fondness for southern single lady authors at all. They are intelligent, humorous, insightful, sensitive about the human condition, and they are LADIES. Just like you.
